USERA Spec Racer Challenge Joins Grand-Am at Lime Rock Memorial Day Weekend
April 22, 2010
The 3rd and 4th Rounds of the 2010 USERA Spec Racer Challenge Championship will join the Grand-Am Rolex Series at Lime Rock Park May 28-29.The USERA Spec Racer Challenge opened the 2010 season with a pair of exciting races at Road Atlanta as part of the 25th Anniversary celebration for the class. Local drivers including the father-son pair of Herb Sweeney, III (Spring City, PA) and Herb Sweeney, IV (Somerville, PA), Lee McNeish (Waterbury, CT), Richard Wiehl (Bridgewater, CT) and Duncan Potter (Cape Elizabeth, ME) battled 65 of their fellow Spec Racer drivers at Road Atlanta, and in May they will be looking to extend their points with a strong dose of “home field” advantage” at Lime Rock.
Following Rounds 1 and 2 at Road Atlanta, Jason Barfield (Granville, OH) has a 14 point lead in the championship. Local McNeish is in fifth and Sweeney IV is currently ninth. Wiehl is just outside the top 10 in 11th and only 68 points separate him from first place in the Championship. With 55 points available for a win, there could be a significant shift in the championship following this weekend’s double rounds as the local drivers take advantage of their knowledge of the track to move up in the points.
