The United States Endurance Racing Association (USERA) Spec Miata Endurance Championship season opener double header is set to take place this weekend, March 24 and 25, at Caroline Motorsports Park in Kershaw, SC. USERA teams expect to take advantage of the double race format to earn valuable points for both the eight race Team and Driver Championships.
Team Stories:
King Rat Motorsports driver Payton Wilson (Chantilly, VA) plans on extending his past success in Miatas to get a jump on the Championship. Wilson established himself as a hard charging driver in the SCCA Pro Miata Cup Series and, with co-driver Mike Collins (Mt. Airy, MD), should be a strong contender for the overall win both days.
McKeever Motorsports with drivers Dan McKeever (Moore, SC) and Ed Romney (Ellenboro, NC) look to extend McKeever's impressive history in Legend Cars to Spec Miata and endurance racing.
Team Dewspeed owner Shawn Dewey (Townsend, DE), like many of the USERA drivers, raced with great success in the SCCA Pro Miata Cup Series. Teaming with 2005 SCCA Pro Miata Cup Champion Tom Long (Raleigh, NC), this duo will be hard to beat.
Puskar Motorsports drivers Chris Puskar (Shelby, NC) will team with seven-time SCCA National Champion David Daughtery (Carmel, IN) to create another very strong driver combination.
The P1-Motorsports driver/owner pair of John Kuitwaard (Wantagh, NY) and Ben Hohn (Easton, CT) are also both veterans of the SCCA Pro Miata Cup Series as well as numerous club endurance events. Look for these two to steal a podium position away from less prepared teams.
Long Road Racing will field a car for veterans Rich Fohl (Beaver Dam, VA) and Craige Pelouze (Richmond, VA). With several decades of experience to their credit, this team is certainly worth watching.
